About the Scholarship Funds

Music Theatre of Connecticut provides financial assistance to dedicated, qualified students through the Eileen J. Schilling Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Charles D. Lewis Jr. Scholarship Fund for training at its School of Performing Arts. The Eileen J. Schilling Fund is named in honor of the mother of MTC co-founder Jim Schilling, and was founded in her memory by the Schilling Family in 2004. The Charles D. Lewis, Jr. Fund was named in honor of Jim Schilling’s theatre teacher and mentor and was founded by Charles’ wife, Jeane Lewis. Charles opened the hearts and minds of his students with an unwavering expectation of the discipline and high standard he not only required, but also embodied. Through MTC, the Funds continue to receive annual financial support from the Schilling Family, as well as additional funding from corporate support, individual contributions, and support from several private foundations.

The Funds are administered by the MTC Board of Directors, and scholarships are awarded based on financial need on an annual basis to students studying at Music Theatre of Connecticut. Applications of potential applicants/families are reviewed yearly by the MTC Scholarship Committee, with awards made in August for the academic year beginning in September.

As an organization, MTC is committed to the principle that no child should be excluded from the pursuit of their artistic dream and development of their talent due to financial hardship. Since its inception in 2004, more than 200 MTC students have pursued their training in acting, voice, dance, musical theatre and MTC’s College Prep Program as a result of support from the Scholarship Funds.
